Wisconsin after Paul Christ: Can any candidate surpass Jim Leonhard? How good is the badger’s job?

The Paul Crist era in Wisconsin came to an abrupt end. Crist was fired on Sunday, a day after his 34-10 loss to Illinois State and former head coach Brett Bielema cut the Badgers to 2-3. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard will take over as interim head coach.

In a release, athletic director Chris McIntosh said: “Following a sincere and sincere conversation with Coach Krist about the long-term best interests of our football program, I have come to this conclusion. The conclusion is that now is the time for a leadership change.” “Paul was a man of integrity who loved his players. I have great respect and admiration for Paul and the legacy he and his family left at UW.

“I also trust Jim Leonhard to direct the program for the remainder of the season. There are still many seasons to play and I know Jim will do well under his leadership.”

Krist is 67-26 as head coach of Wisconsin, including a 9-4 record last season. He won three Big Ten Western Division titles and entered three New Years Six Bowl games, winning two of them. The Badgers haven’t lived up to their standards for a while, though. They’ve gone 15-10 the past three seasons and have lost two home games this year at Randall’s Camp while losing 52-21 at Ohio State.

Chryst’s 67 wins in Wisconsin are the third-most in the program’s history. Bielema was second with a 68.
