Volleyball takes care of business; Alabama Towns 3-1

Oxford, miss. Supported by the big show from Katie Corelli and Vivian MillerOle Miss volleyball scored its first home win of the season, beating Alabama 3-1 Friday night at the Gilom Center.

Rebels (6-9, 2-3 SEC) Youth push team past Alabama (6-11, 0-5 SEC) as freshman Vivian Miller and sophomore Katie Corelli Both set career highs with 15 kills.They were two of the four rebels who killed double figures and joined Sasha Ratliff and Anna Bell There are 13 each. This week the SEC unites freshmen, Carminison Continuing to shine, she hit 20-plus points for the third straight game, finishing with a career-best 28 points.

It was a slow start for the Rebels, who trailed 7-2 before the head coach Kayla Banworth called timeout. Ole Miss was able to regroup to slide within two points from Ratliff at 12-14, but Alabama restored the lead to eight. Just when the Crimson Tide looked like it was going to run with the plate, Ole Miss tied it at 10-1 for a 24-23 lead. The Rebels had two chances to take the set, but Alabama held on to win 27-25.

Alabama held its early advantage on a strong second straight set.Rebels start to fight back, dropping two points on media pause as Peyton Bugoch and Vivian Miller survived. Brgoch closed out the game, smashing two in the final three games as Ole Miss bounced back at .344 to take the second set 25-20.

Ole Miss came into the third set with momentum, looking for a turning point in the game. Trailing by a point, Brgoch opened Alabama with nine points on a 14-7 run. When the rebels started running away with the set, they seemed to be going all out. Corelli and Ratliff took over the final inning, helping the Rebels to score five points at 25-15.

With their first home win, Ole Miss found herself in a tight fourth set with 11 draws and eight lead changes. The Rebels led 15-13 at a media timeout after the two teams traded scores in the opening stages. Tide led 5-0 and 19-17 after the break, forcing Banwarth to call a timeout. Miller 15th Tonight’s killing tied the game at 21, and Sasha Ratliff Take over and get the final four points, including hitting the overpass to the ground to win the game.

The Rebels play the Alabama series Saturday afternoon in Guillaume. The match will be broadcast live on SECN+.
