Former President Donald Trump on Saturday called for an end to the constitution to overturn the 2020 election and restore him to power, continuing his campaign of election denialism and pushing fringe conspiracy theories.
“Do you throw out the 2020 presidential election results and declare the correct winner, or do you run a new election? Massive fraud of this type and scale allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even articles in the Constitution,” Trump said. Writing in a post on the social network Truth Social, Trump blamed “big tech” and the Democrats. “Our great ‘Founding Fathers’ did not want to and would not tolerate a sham and rigged election!”
Trump’s post follows the release of internal Twitter emails showing a 2020 review of the New York Post’s report on material found on Hunter Biden’s laptop.
White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Saturday that Trump’s remarks were “a curse on the soul of our country and should be universally condemned.”
“When you win, you can’t just love America,” Bates said in a statement. “The U.S. Constitution is a sacrosanct document that has guaranteed for more than 200 years that liberty and the rule of law prevail in our great nation. Constitution What unites the American people — regardless of party affiliation — is that elected leaders have sworn to uphold it. It is the ultimate monument to all Americans who gave their lives to defeat selfish tyrants who abused their power and trampled on their fundamental rights.”
Employees on Twitter’s legal, policy, and communications teams debated — sometimes divided — whether to restrict the article under the company’s hacked material policy. The debate came weeks before the 2020 election, when Hunter Biden’s father, Joe Biden, was running against then-President Trump.
Trump’s Constitutional Statement Makes Georgia Election Officials Laugh
Trump announced his third presidential bid last month and is still widely considered the leader of the Republican Party. Party leaders had hoped the former president would drop his election-denialist rhetoric after poor midterm election results.
Earlier this week, Trump expressed his support for the rioters who attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, saying in a video played at a fundraiser that “in my opinion, people were treated unconstitutionally, And it’s very, very unfair, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it. ”
In a September interview, Trump said he was “financially supporting” some of the Jan. 6 defendants and promised pardons and a government apology to those indicted if he was re-elected.
He also came under fire for having dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort with prominent white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and rapper Kanye West, who recently published a A series of anti-Semitic remarks.
