Tigo Energy uses rapid shutdown technology to help solar installers meet Australian safety standards at mines

Campbell, California –(Business Wire)–Tigo Energy, Inc., a leading supplier of Flex MLPE (Module Level Power Electronics) to the solar industry, today announced that its rapid shutdown and monitoring technology is now in use at a mining facility in New South Wales, Australia. Smart Commercial Solar, an installation and management company based in North Sydney, NSW, designed and deployed the ground-mounted installation. Tigo will demonstrate this rapid shutdown technology at the upcoming CEC Masterclass session at the All Energy conference in Melbourne, Australia, highlighting the evolution of solar safety standards and regulations as solar power matures around the world.

“With Tigo, we gain fast shutdown technology and plug-and-play compatibility with all the inverters we use, making Tigo the obvious choice for the systems we deploy for our mining customers,” said Chief Marketing Officer Anastasi Kotoros in Smart Commercial Solar. “These installations are a win for everyone involved: mining operations have a secure solar system that they can monitor remotely, Tigo has added another impressive site to its portfolio, and we have a lot of new Customers can provide ongoing maintenance and energy production insight.”

Tigo technology is powered by TS4-AS and Energy Intelligence (EI), which reduces the power output of each module during fast shutdown startup. With a primary focus on safety, the Tigo TS4-AS Flex MLPE device is certified for the UL PV Rapid Shutdown System (PVRSS) for leading inverters to meet US NEC 2014, 2017 and 2020 rapid shutdown requirements and provides module level monitoring. Rapid shutdown requirements similar to those of the US NEC have been adopted worldwide, including in the Philippines and Thailand. Australia’s new safety requirements for mining operations represent yet another example of regulatory entities implementing solar rapid shutdown requirements to ensure the safety of first responders and anyone who needs to use solar arrays.

The Smart Commercial Solar mine deployment is the first Tigo TS4-AS site that has been fully tested and complied with electrical safety standards under the Health and Safety at Work (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2022, 2013. The standard requires that all direct current carrier (DC) energy meet certain short-circuit and ground-fault protection requirements. To meet updated safety standards, Tigo Quick Shutdown technology is now available for customer deployment in mining operations and Australia’s growing commercial and industrial solar market.

“With the largest list of compatible inverters in the industry, and a particular focus on high-quality installation solutions, our goal is to provide solar solutions that provide our installation partners with as much choice and flexibility as possible,” Chief Marketing Officer James Dillon said. Teago Energy. “We help our installers succeed in a variety of industries and environments, including compliance with local standards and requirements. We are delighted to be partnering with Smart Commercial Solar to open up this important market segment for Tigo in Australia. I look forward to this month at All -Energy discusses the importance of solar fire safety in Australia.”

In support of Australia’s solar installation partners, Mr. Dillon will be leading a presentation and educational session in the Solar Masterclass section of the All Energy Australia Exhibition and Conference in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday, October 27th from 2:30-3:30pm.The speech is titled “Solar industry maturing: global shutdown fast,” The benefits of rapid closure will be covered and the global adoption of rapid closure standards and requirements will be highlighted. Installers participating in the demo are eligible for Continuing Professional Development credits.
