The U.S. State Department has announced a new initiative between the U.S. and U.K. governments to enhance cooperation in data transfer and technology development.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement on Friday that the U.S.-UK Comprehensive Dialogue on Technology and Data initiative builds on a commitment to a landmark bilateral technology partnership in 2021.
Price said the 2023 meeting of high-level representatives from the US and UK would focus on three key areas, namely data, critical and emerging technologies, and secure and resilient digital infrastructure.
Officials from the Departments of State and Commerce, as well as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Departments for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will attend the annual dialogue session.
Price said the U.S.-UK technology partnership paves the way for governments to expand collaboration on shared priorities, including the development of privacy-enhancing technologies, the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence, and the diversification of telecommunications supply chains.
