Shop owner slammed with BB gun outside his business

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A South Nashville business owner filmed himself being shot by a BB while driving by.

Hundreds of cars drive past the Nolensville Pike every day, but Totally Rad Toy House owners said they were worried about customers after someone shot them from their car.

For more than two years, Matthew Powell and LJ Landrum have been selling toys along the Nolensville Pike. Powell moves toys from their pantry every week to replenish the store’s stock, but on Wednesday afternoon, he said he was in the shock of a lifetime.

“It felt like someone hit me with a whip and I was like, ‘Ouch, what is that?'” Powell said.

As Powell loaded the box into the store with his back to the road, he said a BB gun was fired at him.

“We looked at the cameras and yes, someone drove by and shot me with a pellet gun,” Powell said.

In the surveillance footage of the storefront, a black SUV can be seen driving from the window, and someone is holding a toy gun. Just a second later, Powell can be seen gripping his back in pain.

“He pulled up his shirt and there were two red dots on each side of the waist, you could tell it was a bullet hitting him, they were red with a white center in the middle,” Landrum said.

When Powell and Landrum called Metro police, an officer told them there was nothing they could do because the license plate numbers in the video were unclear.

“He said that even if they found the person they could say it wasn’t my vehicle, it was my child,” Landrum said.

The WSMV contacted Metro Police for the third time to ask about people being shot by BBs, but they told me it wasn’t a growing problem. Now Matthew has a worried response for his clients.

“If there’s a lot going on, it definitely needs to be investigated, because there are children, or anyone could lose an eye or be seriously injured because of it, it’s not completely harmless,” Powell said.

The shop owner is now just warning you to be careful and hope the police will act soon.
