The winter weather has caused chaos not only on area roads, but also inside some homes and businesses. Brad Etherton, owner of Best Option Restoration, said since Thursday, Best Option Restoration has had four staffers on staff almost around the clock. The frigid temperatures caused pipes to burst throughout the Louisville metro, and homes and businesses were not only flooded but severely damaged. Etherton worked hard all weekend to reach every customer. “We’ll come in and pump the water. We’ve got pumping equipment, we’re going to get the water off the floors. We’re putting in dehumidifiers, fans, all that stuff,” Etherton said. The damage wasn’t limited to the Louisville subway. The Grill at Maywood restaurant at the Bardstown Country Club was completely flooded. Owner Chris Osborne and his wife were called to the restaurant on Monday morning after a worker noticed the building was flooded. “I heeded the warning. I went there four or five times a day, even though we were closed,” Osborne said. Make sure the cold water drips off. Make sure everything works. I turn the heat up so I don’t have to worry about it. The business has been in business for 21 years and says this is the first time something like this has happened. “It’s never been cold enough to freeze the hot water line and the hot water line has literally frozen and burst,” Osborne said. “This was less than a year after the restaurant was completely renovated. Everything we did was ruined,” Osborne said. Golfing will continue at the club, but the restoration company used estimates the restaurant may need to be closed until at least April. “We said, ‘How long do you think? He said, ‘Well, we’re going to have to remove the drywall. We’re going to have to remove a couple of ceilings,'” Osborne said. Given the cold snap and the timing of the holiday weekend, some conditions will only get worse if more people return home. “We still have people who are out on vacation. They haven’t even come home yet because everyone is supported and unfortunately they may have to wait a few days for someone like us to find them,” Etherton said. If a water main in your home or business bursts, the first thing you should do is turn off the water and call a restoration company that can help with the water. Etherton warns that the longer the water sits, the more damage it does and the more expensive it will be to clean it up.
