Atlanta, September 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — PROPEL Center, a global HBCU technology and innovation center dedicated to strengthening the Black talent pipeline, today announced the location of its new physical campus. This new site, 635 Atlanta Student Movement Blvd., is located at the Atlanta University Center (AUC) on Parsons Street. Between Vine Street and Elm Street.On the former site of University Square Apartments – an area Clark Atlanta University The campus is known as the “Bird Cage”.
The approximately 5.2-acre site has special historical and cultural significance to the Black community due to its proximity to the original sites of Friendship Baptist Church and Flipper Temple AME Church, as well as other local African American institutions.The location also provides PROPEL with a unique opportunity to continue AUC’s legacy through a long-term lease with AUC Clark Atlanta Universityproviding options for the future development of the property.
The PROPEL Center will support the entire HBCU community, including more than 100 colleges and universities, through a robust virtual platform accessible to all HBCU students and staff. Founding partners Apple and the Southern Company and strategic partner The Walt Disney Company have made significant investments in the development and launch of the PROPEL Center.
Designed to provide innovative curricula, work-based learning experiences, advanced technology support, and unprecedented career and leadership opportunities, the center will further its efforts to support the Black college community with a range of strategic resources, preparation and industry access to support Their productive work supports the next generation of scholars for equity, justice, and entrepreneurship.
PROPEL offers course options including Agricultural Technology, Augmented Reality, Social Justice, Health, Arts and Recreation, Hospitality and Energy, and Career Preparation and Entrepreneurship tracks. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2023.
