Portland Timbers and Thorns former business president Mike Golub resigns from OPB board

An embattled businessman has resigned from the Oregon Public Broadcasting Corporation’s board.

Mike Golub was fired Wednesday by the Portland Timbers and Thorns’ president of operations after a report on the National Women’s Soccer League was released this week.

The U.S. Soccer Federation report finds evidence of systemic emotional abuse and sexual misconduct in the sport. Two former Portland Thorns have spoken of harassment by coaches in 2014 and 2015, and the team is accused of trying to interfere with investigators.

Golub is accused of fostering a “toxic” work environment and a climate of disrespect and intimidation toward women for 11 years, The Oregonian reported.

Online users have called on the OPB to oust Golub, who has been on the board since 2017.Some tweet Until Golub resigned or was fired, they were withholding or canceling membership commitments.

Gavin Wilkinson was also relieved of his role as president of football for the Timbers and Thorns.

The OPB’s statement on Golub’s resignation can be read here.
