Doing Business in Pennsylvania

To start a business in Pennsylvania, you need to confirm that the business name you choose will work. If the name is available, you will need to register your corporation with the Pennsylvania State Department of State. After registering your business, you will need to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) for tax purposes. Depending on your industry and type of business, you may also need a Pennsylvania business license.

If you are not ready to register your business but would like to reserve your business name, you can do so by submitting a Name Reserve Form and paying the $70 filing fee.

Forming an LLC in Pennsylvania

To form an LLC in Pennsylvania, you first need to confirm that a business name is available by conducting a business entity search. You then file your Pennsylvania LLC certificate of organization with the Pennsylvania State Department of State. You will also need to pay a $125 filing fee when you register your LLC.

If you intend to use a fictitious name (ie, business name or DBA), you may register the name by filing the applicable form and paying the Pennsylvania Bureau of Corporations and Charities a $70 filing fee.
