Oklahoma police are conducting a homicide investigation after eight people were found dead in a house fire.

The Broken Arrow Police Department said in a Facebook post Thursday night that they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Broken Arrow is about a 20-minute drive southeast of Tulsa.

“This is a complex scenario given the condition of the house caused by the fire,” police said.

Officer Ethan Hutchins, a spokesman for the department, told CNN affiliate KTUL that police were investigating “what happened to these victims,” adding that preliminary reports indicated the incident would be a homicide investigation.

“When the police arrived … they found multiple people dead in the house,” he said. “As of now, we are still investigating what happened.”

Officials will investigate the area, talking to neighbors and “looking for possible leads,” the official added.

CNN has contacted the police department for more information.
