The Jets defense shut down Josh Allen, Zach Wilson threw a touchdown pass, and Greg Zuerlein hit a go-ahead 28-yard field goal with 1:43 left The score gave New York a shock 20-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
At 17, the Jets got the ball at their 4-yard line with 7:53 left, and they ran to the ground. Wilson tied Denzel Mims for 12 yards in the third and fifth quarters after scoring 18 of the Bills in eight straight games with a tired Buffalo defense. But the drive stopped when Wilson was sacked by Damal Hamlin in the third behind and the Jets settled for Zuerlein’s field goal.
Allen had a chance to tie or win, but struggled against the Jets (6-3). A wait for Dion Dawkins cancelled out a long pass to Stefon Diggs. Bryce Huff stripped Allen two games later, and Buffalo restored it at 14. After a turnover on Diggs, Allen launched a desperate pass to Gabe Davis, but rookie Sauce Gardner knocked the ball down and sealed the no. All too likely victory. Jets. It also ended the Bills’ four-game winning streak.
New York entered the off week after trailing by halftime behind AFC East-leading Buffalo (6-2). The Jets even overcame a brief delay in the second half due to a malfunctioning overhead camera. “This only happens to the Jets,” said one smiling coach, Robert Saleh.
The Jets’ offense kept moving forward when a SkyCam camera went out of control and hovered low in the midfield, delaying the game by 12 minutes. A remote-controlled camera for high-altitude filming is tilted up and down the field until the camera operator is able to enclose it.
Miami Dolphins 35–32 Chicago Bears
Tua Tagovailoa threw three touchdowns, Tyreek Hill had a 143-yard catch and the Miami Dolphins overcame a record-setting rush from Justin Fields.
In a game where neither side did much to stop the other, the Dolphins (6-3) moved the ball effortlessly in the face of a battered defense and made enough games to clinch their third straight win .
He ran for 178 yards, the most by an NFL quarterback in the regular season. He had a 61-yard touchdown run and threw a 3-pointer. He also became the first player since at least 1950 to rush for at least 150 yards and three TD passes in a game. His performance ensured the Bears (3-6) had a chance to be late. Miami played with less than three minutes left and they got the ball on the 28th. But on the 42nd and 10th holes, Fields made an incomplete pass to Equanimeous St. Brown, ending Chicago’s fifth loss in six games.
Los Angeles Rams 13–16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Cade Orton with nine seconds left to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a sloppy matchup of the past two Super Bowl champions. Brady took over with 44 seconds left and went 5-for-6 for 60 yards in his 55th career game. The seven-time Super Bowl champion avoided his first four-game losing streak in 20 years and has beat the Rams on four attempts since joining the Buccaneers (4-5) in 2020.
Green Bay Packers 9-15 Detroit Lions
Aaron Rodgers tied a career-high three interceptions in the final minute and threw an incomplete pass in the fourth from Detroit’s No. 17 in the final minute, allowing the Lions to go on to beat the Green Bay Packers team.
The Lions (2-6) snapped a five-game losing streak.
The Packers (3-6) lost five straight for the first time since 2008, when their four-time NFL MVP Rodgers was a first-year starter.
Detroit tried to seal the win late in the fourth quarter when coach Dan Campbell won the fourth and third quarters at No. 43 in Green Bay. Goff’s pass was incomplete. Rodgers failed to take advantage. He did convert fourth and second off-balance lobs to Samori Toure, who fumbled out of bounds at No. 17 in Detroit. Two-time defending NFL MVP Rodgers ended a poor game with four consecutive incomplete passes. He went 23-for-42 for a 291-yard TD and had three interceptions for the fifth time in his career.
Carolina Panthers 21–42 Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Mixon rushed for 153 yards and five touchdowns as the Cincinnati Bengals took a 35-0 halftime lead and won. Mixon entered the game with 3 TDs for the year, scoring 4 times in the first half alone, the first 3 were short rushes, and the 4th was a 12-yard pass from Joe Burrow, who finished 22 for 28 in front of 206 yards Late in the third quarter, backup Brandon Allen took his place.
The Bengals (5-4) bounced back from Monday night’s horrific loss at AFC North rivals Cleveland, jumped on Carolina (2-7) early and dominated the defense. Cincinnati let PJ Walker pass for just 9 yards and intercepted him twice in the first half, chasing the former XFL quarterback to the bench and allowing Baker Mayfield to start Game 2.
Seattle Seahawks 31–21 Arizona Cardinals
Geno Smith threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns, rookie Kenneth Walker III ran for 109 yards and two points, and the Seattle Seahawks won their fourth straight game. NFC West-leading Seattle (6-3) continues to surprisingly rise, while the Cardinals (3-6) have lost four of their five games.
Minnesota Vikings 20–17 Washington Commander
Kirk Cousins passed for two touchdowns, Harrison Smith picked Tyler Hynek to tie the game, and the Minnesota Vikings came back to beat the Washington Commander to extend their winning streak to six games.
Cousins, who played his first game in Washington as the visiting team, rebounded from an interception at the end of the first half and bounced back after he absorbed a couple of big hits to lead a 68-yard drive, It ended with a 3-pointer from Greg Joseph.
Smith’s interception midway through the fourth quarter gave the Vikings the ball in the red zone. Cousins made contact with Darwin Cook on a 12-yard TD pass that was one of his best throws of the game, making up for some of the previous inaccuracies. He went 22 for 40 for 265 yards. Minnesota gained more time in the game after an unnecessarily rude penalty on an initial shot attempt, with Joseph receiving the ball from 28 yards with 12 seconds left to keep the streak going.
Los Angeles Chargers 20–17 Atlanta Falcons
Cameron Dicker hit a game-ending field goal three days after signing as a free agent, hitting a 37-yard field goal to give the Los Angeles Chargers a win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Dick also hit a 31-yard field goal with 5:27 left to tie the game at 17. The rookie from Texas signed with the practice team on Thursday and will replace the injured Dustin Hopkins on Sunday. This is only Dick’s second game in the NFL — he also scored in Week 5 for the Philadelphia Eagles as an injury backup.
Las Vegas Raiders 20–27 Jacksonville Jaguars
Travis Etienne ran for two touchdowns, and the Jacksonville Jaguars eventually won a close game, beating the Las Vegas Raiders from a 17-point deficit.
It was the second-biggest comeback in Jaguars history (3-6), as they climbed out of a 21-point hole to beat the New York Giants in 2014.
The Raiders (2-6), who were shut out in New Orleans last week, dominated early. They scored on four of their first five possessions and led 20-7 by halftime. Davante Adams was unstoppable, catching nine passes for 146 and two points in the first 30 minutes. But Jacksonville eventually stepped up its resistance to the five-time Pro Bowler, who had a no-yardage catch after halftime.
Indianapolis Colts 3–26 New England Patriots
Mike Jones had a touchdown pass, Nick Falk added four field goals and the Patriots completed nine sacks to help New England beat the Indianapolis Colts.
The win puts the Patriots (5-4) above .500 heading into bye week for the first time this season. The Colts (3-5-1) have lost three straight and haven’t won one since backup quarterback Matt Ryan backed sophomore Sam Ellinger.
