COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – The number of new business filings in Ohio fell in September.
There were 14,493 new applications last month, down 8.4% from August and 0.3% from September 2021.
Inflation, staff shortages and supply chain issues are the top issues facing small businesses across the country.
“Ohio families are digging after being hit hard by inflation, and some may have had their confidence shaken about starting a new business,” said Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose. “Despite these challenges, Ben This month’s data shows that many new entrepreneurs are undaunted and continue to believe in Ohio. They are doing their part to keep our economy going by launching new businesses.”
Although the number of new applications fell last month, LaRose said 2019, 2020 and 2021 were record years for new business in Ohio.
Nationally, new business filings in the U.S. increased 1.0%. The only region to decline was the South, down 0.3%. The Northeast saw the largest increase at 2.9%, followed by the West at 2.6% and the Midwest at 0.7%.
