Mother Debbie Sargent and her daughter MacKenzie Roberts have combined their talents and passions into a burgeoning business offering everything from front porch decor to interior design and organization. A sense of calm and beauty is spreading across Washington County homes, one decorated space at a time.

“Honestly, I don’t think something as simple as decorating a porch for the holidays is going to be what everyone wants,” Roberts said, adding She inherited her talent from her mother, who always had a flair for interior design.

Growing up, Roberts’ home was very organized and beautifully decorated, something she brought into her own as an adult. When the couple moved to St. In January, George Sargent, of Salt Lake City, said she was ready to turn her passion for design and organization—a service she has served to many over the years—into a full-time business.

“I’ve finally become an empty-nest, and that’s what I really want to pursue,” Sargent said. “I can focus my energy on helping others achieve the home they want.”

These businesses made a surprising comeback as they decorated their respective porches for fall, something each of them does every year. They posted their finished design on social media, and that’s when Roberts said it “blew up in an instant.” Friends and family are flooding their Facebook feeds and inboxes with inquiries hoping their porches will be done for fall, Christmas and other seasons.

“We had a lot of people interested in it, it was crazy. I couldn’t believe how much it took off,” Sargent said.

Roberts added: “If we already have friends and family who want to do this, why not make it available to others?”

It Girls was born, offering a variety of packaging options for fall doorway decor, which have been posted on various local Facebook pages.

The first pack is for people who like simple designs and features a few pumpkins, a fall doormat, and a fall wreath. The second pack offers a higher step, with wreath doormats, fall logos and extra fall decor.

The most extensive package is a combination of the first two packages, along with various additional decorations, such as fall pillows, to bring the design together.

All packages include front porch power washing to start off with a clean slate, as well as cleaning and removing perishable items like pumpkins at the end of the season. Customers can keep all decorations provided.

Roberts and Sargent are excited to expand their business into interior and exterior design, such as backyards, and home organization, something they are both passionate about.

It Girls offers free home consultations for individual room designs and complete interiors, including wallpaper, as well as home organization for closets, pantries, appliance drawers, and more. A tissue box that the customer already has can be used, or a container can be provided. Tags can be used to match each client’s individual organizational needs.

“We try to stay within budget because litter boxes can get expensive,” Sargent said. “The price of a litter box ranges from dollar store prices to crates and buckets, so we’re keeping it affordable.”

The couple enjoyed the opportunity to start and run a business together. Their personal vision for design complements every project they undertake, making them a great team.

The mother and daughter are excited to see where the business takes them and appreciate the opportunity to meet new people in the area while creating designs they love.

The It Girls’ design options also extend to special events like weddings, birthday parties, and more. To contact The It Girls directly for your decorating needs, please visit their Facebook page.
