Maui Food Tech Center Offers Two Webinars for Hawaiian Food Entrepreneurs: Maui Now

Small food entrepreneurs looking to grow their business will find helpful information in two webinars on food safety and labelling in October, hosted by the Maui Food Technology Center.

Wednesday, October. 26th 10am-11am, “Food Safety Planning Workshop” will be John Nakajima, RS, PCQI; owner of Food Safety Services Hawai’i, LLC. In this webinar, guests will learn how to develop a sound food safety program and how these efforts will protect not only you, but your customers. Topics will include:

  • What type of food safety program does your business need?
  • What are HACCP and FSMA and how do these plans affect you?
  • What information is required for a food safety program?
  • What are the pros and cons of DIY vs outsourcing?

Thursday, October. 27th 10am-11am, “Food Labeling Workshop” will be Nina Ann Tanabe, MS, CFS; Principal, Pacific Food Technology, LLC. During this webinar, guests will get the latest information on food labeling, regulatory requirements and how your efforts can change the game. Topics will include:

  • Who needs food labels?
  • What products are covered by these federal agencies (USDA, FDA, and TTB)?
  • What are FDA’s mandatory requirements for food labeling?
  • What are the labeling deadlines for USDA and FDA?

Nakashima has over 30 years experience as a food safety education specialist and trainer with the Hawaii Department of Health.

Tanabe has over 35 years of experience in product development, regulatory compliance, ingredient and equipment sourcing and specification, lean manufacturing and plant layout.
