Thanks to social media, a previously little-known fact about Julia Roberts is now more widely known.
It all started recently A Twitter user shared a video of Roberts’ compilation, Writing “Martin Luther King, Jr.. Paying for her birth is still a little known fact and it blows my mind.”
A few days later, in honor of Roberts’ 55th birthday on October 28, Advisor Zara Raheem tweeted a clip of Roberts sharing her birth story with reporter Gail King (Not related to Dr. King).
Roberts explained, Dr. King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, covered the cost of hospitalization as their parents couldn’t pay their bills.
“My parents had a drama school in Atlanta called Actors and Writers Studio,” Roberts said. “Coretta Scott King called my mother the other day and asked if her child could be a part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her child.”
Thus began the friendship between the civil rights leader and Walter and Betty Lou Roberts, Roberts’ mother affirmed.
That led the Kings to pay for the birth of the woman who would become an international star.
“They helped us out of this mess,” Julia Roberts said.
