In 5G news, American Tower and Verizon Communications have entered into a new agreement to facilitate the deployment of 5G networks in the United States. In Europe, Nokia and Finland’s Telia announced the world’s first commercial 5G standalone network with network slicing capabilities for fixed wireless access services.

Ericsson and the Advanced Wireless Aviation Experimentation and Research Platform, funded by the National Science Foundation and a consortium of industry partners, announced a collaboration to advance the use of 5G for drone operations to support smart agriculture. The demo includes real-time monitoring of grazing patterns on cattle farms.

Alepo has released the latest version of its 5G Converged Core solution with enhancements designed to support advanced 5G use cases to continue driving innovation.

Optiva introduces the Optiva Charging Engine, the first 5G telecom charging solution to be traded through the Google Cloud Marketplace, enabling CSPs to quickly procure software and connect to other parts of their architecture. Amdocs also introduced Amdocs Charging, which enables convergent monetization of new services across standalone 5G and beyond. Leading service providers, including two Tier 1 operators in North America, are already using Amdocs Charging.

Universal coverage even in the most remote parts of America? That’s the vision of Coverage Above and Beyond, a new initiative to connect mobile phones everywhere, announced by T-Mobile CEO and president Mike Sievert and SpaceX chief engineer Elon Musk. The plan would leverage Starlink, SpaceX’s constellation of satellites in low-Earth orbit, and T-Mobile’s wireless network — perhaps eliminating our dreaded “dead zone” forever.

Comcast announced at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo that Comcast Cable plans to double the energy efficiency of its network by 2030, halving the electricity consumed per terabyte of data. The company also announced successful testing of the final technology components to deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds powered by 10G and DOCSIS 4.0 across the Comcast network, leading to the launch of multi-gigabit internet speeds in the U.S., with plans to reach the end of 2025, More than 50 million homes and businesses.

Teleste is excited to talk about the cable industry’s 10G vision, announcing the successful completion of 1.8 GHz end-to-end network testing at the 10G Showcase at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo.

As end users demand more video and data, requiring more upstream and downstream bandwidth, broadband service providers need innovative ways to utilize the spectrum their wired and wireless networks can support. Lindsay Broadband’s HFC network rebuild end-to-end solution creates high-performance networks at 1.2 and 1.8 GHz and is on display at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo. UfiSpace also showcased its next-generation OpenXR, OpenZR+ and Pluggable OLT solutions for fixed mobile and broadband networks at the show. DriveNets is expanding its network cloud ecosystem with the leading ZR/ZR+ optical solutions unveiled at the show.
