Hybrid wheat may lead to more food without fear of GMOs

a new hybrid The wheat now available to U.S. farmers may help reduce fears of genetically modified crops.

Seed companies around the world are looking to increase production due to dwindling food supplies, thus introducing new hybrids.

The hybrid wheat was developed by Chinese-owned agricultural company Syngenta. This product was created without genetic engineering.

The first wheat seeds will be sown next year on 2,000 to 2,800 hectares of U.S. farmland, Reuters reported.

Two major German chemical companies – BASF and Bayer – are planning to launch their own hybrid wheats in the future.

How is Hybrid Wheat Made?

Developers or breeders create hybrid wheat by depriving plants of their natural abilities pollination they themselves. Instead, female wheat plants in the field are pollinated by male plants of different lines. The goal of the process is to create seeds that can produce larger crops and better withstand harmful environments.this Fertilize The female plant produces a new hybrid.

Using this hybridization technique allows breeders to select the best elements from both parental seeds to produce new seeds that contain the best elements feature or both.

When seed companies produce hybrid wheat seeds, some female plants often fail to fertilize because they rely on unpredictable winds to carry pollen, producers say. Pollen is a substance produced when plants reproduce.

During certain seasons, pollen is released into the air and carried to other plants for fertilization.Producers claim to fertilize more per plant affim During the natural process of wheat self-pollination.

How common are hybrid crops?

Farmers have grown hybrid corn since the 1930s. This growth increases the size of the crop, known as yield, by increasing the plant’s resistance to things like insects and disease. Vegetables such as onions, spinach and tomatoes are also grown from hybrid seeds.

Seed companies say they are using what they have learned from launching hybrid corn and barley to develop hybrid wheat. Average corn yields increased 600 percent from the 1930s to the mid-1990s. This result is partly due to hybridization. Wheat prices jumped two and a half times, the USDA said.

Hybrid wheat takes longer to market because the development process is more costly and complex, the researchers said. Improving wheat yields may be important while avoiding being linked to “GMO” development. GMO stands for gene Modified biology.

GM wheat has never been grown for industrial purposes because of fears allergen Otherwise poison may be produced. Wheat is used to make many staple foods worldwide.

Dave Hankey owns Hankey Seed Company in Park River, North Dakota. “Hybrids will be considered better and safer because of their resistance to genetically modified substances,” he told Reuters.

He added, “It must be the public insight
