Elon University / Today at Elon / Business Fellows Gain Career Insights During NYC Company Visit

Senior Business Fellows visited CIBC, Credit Suisse, Richard Bernstein Advisors, Wells Fargo, Nasdaq, IPG Health, Bloomberg, Matrix Applications, FactSet and Salesforce to discuss industries and career paths while experiencing the power of Elon’s alumni network.

A group of senior business researchers visited several organizations in New York over two days in September to gain insight into various industries and career paths.

Fellows are accompanied by Raj Gupta, Professor of Finance; David Moura, Lecturer in Management; Brooke Buffington, Director, Center for Student Professional Development; and Beth Mannella, Associate Director, Corporate and Employer Relations; Served at CIBC, Credit Suisse, Richard Bernstein Advisors, Wells Fargo , Nasdaq, IPG Health, Bloomberg, Matrix Applications, FactSet, and Salesforce.

Following the office tour, fellows participated in presentations and a question-and-answer session with company representatives. Topics discussed include career paths, how office culture and office space design have changed since the pandemic, work-life balance, how to best prepare for the job market, how diverse teams work together, and from university to business Transition.

“This trip gave me a lot of knowledge and insight into my future career after Elon,” shared Colby Ehrhart ’23 G’23, an accounting major. “I was excited to hear from Elon alumni about their post-graduation experiences and their various career opportunities. The conversations we were able to have sparked my interest and excitement about entering the workforce.”

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to experience the city professionally with my team of business associates and connect with Elon’s amazing alumni network,” said Jane Ragland ’23, a double major in economic consulting and accounting. “Seeing the incredible things Elon alumni are doing at companies like Credit Suisse, Wells Fargo and CIBC makes me proud to be a Phoenix person. When visiting Nasdaq, we not only saw Opening bells, seeing “Elon University” shining on a Nasdaq billboard in Times Square, and hearing the stories of three Elon alumni who praised the determination, professionalism and humility Elon taught them as their success driving force.”

While in New York, the group also participated in the Elon LEADS event in New York, which included a talk by business researcher Ava Rosen ’23, who spoke about her transformative Elon experience.

“The Elon Leads event illuminates our strong alumni network,” Ragland said. “Connecting with old friends and meeting new mentors at this event was the perfect addition to this trip, showing how the Elon community can support you after graduation. If I start my first job and continue in my career Going forward, I will continue to value the connections I made during this trip and my exposure to different companies and career paths. I look forward to joining the Elon alumni community in New York City soon.”

“It’s been exciting to learn, grow, and see all the possibilities of applying what we’ve learned here in the real world over the past three and a half years at Elon,” said Hailey Crawford, 23, an economic consulting major. “Most importantly, watching recent alumni in roles that some of us can see ourselves pursuing within a few years is very inspiring for the future!”
