Columbus, Indiana –(Business Wire)– Cummins Incorporated (NYSE: CMI) will showcase its zero-emission technology platform this week at IAA Mobility, the world’s largest transportation exhibition, in Hannover, Germany. A series of new Cummins technologies and the recently acquired Meritor ePowertrain technology are shared for the first time. With more than a century of experience as a global power leader, Cummins is building on its commitment to delivering comprehensive zero-emission technologies around the world.

A key zero-emission product Cummins will showcase at the IAA is its fourth-generation hydrogen fuel cell engine. Designed to meet the duty cycle, performance and packaging requirements of medium and heavy duty trucks and buses, the fuel cell technology is available in 135 kW single and 270 kW dual modules.
Scania in Europe and Daimler Trucks in North America each announced a partnership with Cummins to develop and integrate these next-generation fuel cell engines into demonstration vehicles. The system uses fourth-generation transformer technology to provide higher power density, power node and operating temperature for easier system integration into the vehicle. They also feature strong run-cycle efficiency and durability for a lower total cost of ownership.

IAA attendees will also get their first look at a powertrain assembled from the newly introduced Cummins Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack, Meritor’s 17xe ePowertrain and Meritor’s Power Control and Accessory System (PCAS). Cummins recently added ePowertain and PCAS solutions to its product portfolio through the acquisition of Meritor. ePowertrain leverages market-leading axle, motor and inverter technology to deliver performance, efficiency and packaging benefits at a competitive cost. In addition, PCAS provides power and controls necessary subsystems where needed, while reducing package size and simplifying integration.
Cummins is adding LFP batteries to its lithium-ion battery product line to expand support for electric commercial vehicle applications. LFP solutions enable customers to achieve faster charging and longer battery life for the mid-duty truck and school bus markets. By adopting a multi-chemical strategy, Cummins is positioned to further expand its manufacturing capabilities and diversify its supply chain to provide customers with more cost-effective electrification solutions.

Cummins’ product portfolio includes four batteries, each targeting a different duty cycle and use case, and complementing each other. In addition to the LFP option, this includes three Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries – BP95E, BP74E and BP30E. The BP95E is Cummins’ next-generation solution prioritizing higher energy density in applications for customers who require a more weight-sensitive solution or have longer range. The BP30E is ideal for space-constrained applications and demanding requirements, while the BP74E is the foundation of Cummins BEV innovation and advancement.
