Cooper’s Gifts has been in business in Agarwam for nearly 50 years

Agarwam, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – It’s time to fall in love with Western Mass. This week, we’ll be highlighting Cooper’s gifts. Opened in Agarwam for almost 50 years, the store is gearing up for some exciting sales and events ahead of the festival.

Proud owner Kate Gourde has inherited the business from her parents and has grown it into a successful store for all your gift, home and apparel needs.

“We’re all about who else can help you cross your list,” Goode explained.

With the holidays approaching, Cooper’s retail therapists, as Goode put it, are already bracing for the influx of shoppers.

“No one spends Christmas like Cooper. We have something for everyone on your list. We have merchandise coming in to our left and right. Literally, something for everyone on your list…  .We’re also starting our Christmas prelude on Veterans Weekend, and then we do all kinds of things for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday,” explained Goode.

Not only does Cooper’s have new items arriving in stores every week, but Gourde puts a lot of thought into where the inventory comes from.

“We’ve always been very attentive and selected our suppliers for something extra. We keep a close eye on handmade or made in the USA suppliers or women-owned suppliers… companies with special gift giving back lines, through sales Companies that give back to charities. We’re always looking for gifts that are special and meaningful,” Goode noted.

Cooper’s is known for helping customers choose the right gift for the recipient, but not everything has to be a gift for someone else. When it comes to home decor, one of their specialties is curtains.

“This is our niche. We have a great selection of curtains throughout the store, upstairs, downstairs… We have a loan program where people can take them home and try them out with no extra cost and no obligation , so it’s definitely a good time to think about going home and getting ready for the holidays, and we’ll have some special offers for that,” Goode added.

As the company approaches 50 years of serving the communities of western Massachusetts, Gourde aims to reach an important milestone.

“We started the ‘Round Up’ program in 2014, and every month, we do a different charity event locally, we let customers exchange a few cents for the next dollar at the checkout, and if they do, we Matching 50%, we’ve been keeping the stats and we’re very hopeful we’ll be at $50,000 by the end of the year,” Goode said.

This coming weekend is the Cooper Curtain Box Show on Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm. You can stop by and get your curtains ready to take home to hang on your windows, or even have them custom made. Just this weekend, there will be special gifts to buy too.
