CommunityWorks’ new learning center opens at Judson Mill

The nonprofit has been busy the past few weeks community work.

in September, Latorrie Gill After being selected as CEO back in August, the organization will officially take over as CEO, and the organization will also be in the newly renovated Judson Mill Located at 701 Easley Bridge Road.

After 10 years at the organization, where she has served as chief operating officer for the past four years, Geer said she was well prepared for her responsibilities, thanks to the training she received during her time with the organization.

“We’re really invested in our team, and I think they’re excited about the growth opportunities they might have in the organization,” Gill said.

After joining the team as a Program Manager, from Director of Operations to COO to now CEO, she has seen the organization grow and expand to meet current needs. At the same time, she has weathered an unprecedented health crisis for the team caused by the pandemic. In response, CommunityWorks was able to support small business owners as it managed more than $9 million for more than 600 people statewide.

“I’m very grateful that we were nimble and we were able to adapt quickly to the needs of the community,” she said.

Introducing the CommunityWorks Learning Center

Now as another way to continue to improve local communities, community work New Learning Centre opened at Judson Mill.

Considered an ancient behemoth of the local mill building, Judson’s Mill was once the largest mill in Greenville County, operated by Milliken and located just outside of downtown and West Greenville.

Feed and Seeds

The facility has undergone a major overhaul in recent years, converting more than 800,000 square feet of historic building space into loft apartments and amenities such as a community pool, fitness center and courtyard, as well as a Bullock Haven Climbing Gym and country-themed music venues Cowboy Night Lightnot to mention sprawling food centers Feed and Seedsto feed underserved communities throughout the North.

Now add to the CommunityWorks Learning Center.

This CommunityWorks Learning Center at JudHub Opening August 25, it will offer events to help community members, in addition to free or affordable financial and entrepreneurship training sessions and office hours for entrepreneurs to meet with business coaches.

“We’re bringing community assets to a community that may have felt abandoned at one point, but now they’re really seeing the greater benefit of the area,” Geer said.

Her vision is to be as community-centric as possible, whether through affordable housing or job creation.

“We’re excited about our learning center…and being able to offer training opportunities,” Gill said.
