Wall-mounted CABs are targeted at employers who need to deploy pre-alcohol consumption testing before and during work hours in a quick and cost-effective manner. CAB technology allows the user to direct a single breath sample in a completely non-contact manner to small holes integrated into the wall-mounted unit (for indoor use) and behind the steering wheel for use in the car. CABs are fundamentally different from existing alcohol breathalyzers and interlock systems, which require the user to use a mouthpiece or straw to blow directly into a handheld device that is usually connected to the vehicle by a cable. Cannabix CAB can be integrated into different positions in the carriage. The CAB provides warnings, pass or fail results, and blood alcohol content (BAC) levels on-screen for the driver to review. This technology has the potential to be integrated with interlocking systems and can be used in a variety of environments, including automobiles, heavy equipment, heavy haulage vehicles, boats, and motorcycles. Additionally, the device can be used in bars, restaurants and hotels for customers and employees.
Vehicle Alcohol Breath Screening
The company developed its CAB technology in response to interest in new vehicle alcohol detection technologies. In September, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued a recommendation that all new vehicles be equipped with technology that prevents drinking and driving(1). In November 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), which requires new vehicles to be equipped with technology that can detect alcohol levels in breath. The legislation directs the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to develop new safety standards for impaired driving safety equipment on all new vehicles within three years (2) (3).
Manufacturers such as Volvo have tried to offer alcohol detection systems as optional equipment.
