California family kidnapping: Charges charged against suspect arrested in kidnapping, murder of Central California family

Merced, California — Charges were filed Monday against the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder of the Merced family. His brother has also been arrested and is also expected to be charged.

Jesus Salgado and his brother Alberto Salgado are accused of killing Jasdeep Singh, 36, Jaslyn Kaur, 27, and their 8-month-old child Aroohi Dheri with the child’s uncle, Amandeep Singh, 39.

A family of four was found dead in Merced County last Wednesday.

The Merced County District Attorney’s Office charged Jesus with four counts of murder. He is expected to appear in court on Monday afternoon to be arraigned on the charges.

Merced County Sheriff Fern Warnke said the bodies of all four family members were found Wednesday night in an orchard.

A family spokesman told Action News that the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder, Jesus Salgado, was a former employee who had driven for the victim’s trucking company. They disagreed and parted ways.

Jesus was officially booked into the Merced County Jail Thursday night on four counts of kidnapping and four counts of murder. Deputies said he attempted suicide before being taken into custody on Tuesday.

A series of four candlelight vigils were held late last week and over the weekend to honor the family.

Alberto is expected to be charged with criminal conspiracy, accessory and destruction of evidence.
