Business owners and officials in flood-prone Brickell prepare for Nicole

Miami – despite the worst Hurricane Nicole Businesses in Miami’s flood-prone Brickell neighborhood are bracing for heavy rains that are expected to hit northern Miami-Dade County.

City officials also took out pumps to pump water from the lowest areas.

“We’re going to stay until the road turns into a river because once it’s flooded, you can’t leave,” said James Mack, owner of James Mack Custom Jewelry. “We hope Brickell is doing well; we need this business because It’s the low season, and it’s very slow.”

Several business owners along 10th Street had sandbags ready for the rising waters.

“10th Street is notorious for flooding,” says Victoria Arias of Face Brow & Beauty Bar.

Many people in the region have gone through difficult experiences and what can happen if they are not prepared.

“During the last storm, we had two feet of drywall to remove and we had to close for two days, so it was really bad,” Arias said.
