Brainard Hears From Downtown Business Owners About Snow Removal Services

Snow will finally start accumulating on streets and sidewalks as Lakeland Viewpoint welcomes its first major snowfall event of the season. Brainerd City Council recently held a public hearing to hear from downtown business owners on whether they believe downtown should remain part of the special service area.

The area includes snow removal from streets, sidewalks, alleys and parking lots. Part of this work is being assessed by owners in the district. Business owners in the area never have to keep sidewalks and parking spaces clean themselves.

“I just wanted to say I support keeping special service areas,” said Marie Kirsch, owner of Knotty Pine Bakery. “I’ve been in business since 2019, so I’ve had a couple of winters now to see how these services are going, I just think it’s good for my business and keeping downtown Brainard as a destination in the area The shopping area is invaluable.”

City Council has moved to approve a contract with Tom’s Backhoe Service to clear the area of snow in 2022-23.
