- Holiday Extra is the first business in the newly available space at the Duluth Holiday Mall and will open within the next two weeks. Holiday Extra is located on the second floor of the city center shopping center and sells newspapers, magazines, sweets, cigarettes, souvenirs and similar items.
- Duluth’s St. Nurse Practitioner Luke’s hospital voted yesterday to accept a new contract that includes a 19.3 percent salary increase over the next two years. The contract also adds compensation for afternoon and evening work and overtime on weekends.

- At a meeting yesterday in Duluth, William Culkin was named chair of the committee investigating the status of the former county historical society. The meeting was called to reorganize the old society into St. Petersburg. Lewis County Historical Society.
- Blue Valley Creamery Company, one of the largest butter producers in the Midwest, has completed negotiations to open a Duluth facility. The company will build a two-storey building near the McDougall Warehouse Company on Railroad Street.
