Fort Myers, Florida — An Austin business owner decided to weather Hurricane Ian in Fort Myers, Florida.
Deirdre Sullivan owns and lives Thrift Land in South Austin. Her family has owned this thrift store in South Austin for over 25 years.
She said it was the third hurricane to hit her home after choosing not to evacuate.
“We don’t usually leave because we feel well sheltered in place and the roads can be really supported and the hotels are full,” Sullivan said.
She said her home has hurricane-impacted windows and that she has stockpiled supplies. Sullivan said her home lost power after the hurricane and had to rely on generators.
“I feel safe. I think it may take a long time for us to recover, maybe not necessarily my community, but my community,” she said.
