Oct. 29 – Did You Know Aiken County Career Technology Center?
Well, now is your chance to learn as ACCTC is hosting a community night for parents and students to learn more about the 17 programs on offer, principal Kenneth Lott said.
“Community Night gives the community an opportunity to come in and see all the fascinating work we do at the Career Center to advance career and technical education…everyone can benefit from attending; all students can Benefit from the Career Center. If you’re going to college, the military or the workforce, our programs benefit every child,” Lott said.
During the event, participants will be able to tour the campus and see different programs, while hearing from faculty and students currently enrolled there, Lott said. He added that parents and students, especially middle and high school students, are encouraged to participate.
“We just wanted to encourage the community to come out and see the opportunities that exist within the Aiken County Public School District,” Lott said. “In addition, ACPSD is building a new state-of-the-art career and technology centre on the Aiken Tech campus, which will create more opportunities for students to gain skills.”
The center offers students three-year, two-year and one-year programs. The three-year program includes cosmetology, health sciences and welding and must be applied for in the ninth grade. In addition, third-year options that can be applied for in ninth grade are emergency and fire management and criminal justice/law enforcement programs.
The two-year programs offered include Fashion Design and Apparel Construction, Digital Art and Design, Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Electricity, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Sports Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, available in Year 10.
The Mechanical and Architectural Design (MADD) and Cybersecurity and Networking courses are two-year programs offered through dual enrollment at Aiken Tech.
Emergency and fire management and criminal justice/law enforcement programs are offered as three-year and two-year programs.
The one-year program includes Nail Art Techniques, Introduction to Barbering, and Weaving Exploration and can be applied in Year 10 or 11.
“Everyone can benefit from being a plumber, and everyone can benefit from being an electrician… We need all those skills,” Lott said.
