Addressing the weaknesses of smart building technologies

As with any other innovation, the integration of IoT technology in smart buildings will bring benefits as well as more and newer risks. The smart building technology market continues to grow at a faster rate. By 2020, 1.7B of connected devices have been deployed and used globally, and by 2024, this number is expected to grow to over 3B.

97% of these IoT technologies and devices are vulnerable to medium to high-level potential cyber risks, and cyber attacks have compromised multiple businesses, including critical infrastructure. To continue enjoying the benefits of smart buildings, we need to find ways to protect corporate IT systems and their mission-critical infrastructure.

In this Help Net Security video, Alex Chan, Director of Corporate Security for Schneider Electric Buildings, discusses the key potential weaknesses of smart building technologies and what we can do to strengthen the protection of these building systems.
