5G in India: How the next generation of technology can change your life

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G telecom services in India today, ushering in a new era of technology. The technology is designed to provide seamless coverage, high data rates, low latency and highly reliable communication systems. 5G services are also expected to play a major role in achieving the economic goal of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25. According to experts, 5G will have a cumulative economic impact of $1 trillion by 2035 and bring the country $150 billion in additional GDP between 2025-40.

During the launch event, Prime Minister Modi also took time to understand the local development of end-to-end 5G technology and the different use cases for the service.

Here are 10 ways 5G can change your life

– For consumers, 5G promises higher data speeds than 4G. 5G could reach peak speeds of 10 Gbps compared to 4G’s 100 Mbps peak.

-5G technology provides latency as low as 1 millisecond. For the uninitiated, latency is the time it takes for a device to send a packet and get a response. Shorter latency, faster response.

-5G technology will provide seamless coverage in remote areas of the country. It will improve energy efficiency, spectral efficiency and network efficiency.

-5G will also usher in an era of technological advancements in the country such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), etc. These technologies will have an end-to-end impact across multiple sectors – healthcare, agriculture, education, disaster management, and more.

-5G will enhance the fan experience of sporting events such as live music festivals and football matches. The low latency provided by 5G will provide sports fans with an immersive experience.

-5G will also enable new services and products powered by Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The advanced capabilities offered by 5G networks will also drive new business models.

– The arrival of 5G will also transform the transportation and mobility industries. Using 5G, a network of electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations can be built to help maximize the cost-effectiveness of the EV ecosystem;

– Next-generation 5G networks will also help work remotely more efficiently. 5G-powered smart buildings can help provide employees with a more comfortable work environment and increase productivity while reducing costs for employers.

-5G technology will boost Industrial Revolution 4.0. Brand new 5G services will connect various IoT (Internet of Things) sensors and devices to automate various processes.

-5G will enable customers to watch 4K video on their mobile phones. It will also support the use of AR/VR, mobile gaming applications, and many other immersive activities and new applications.

– Next-generation 5G technology will also have an impact on how goods are produced and distributed. 5G applications in manufacturing include reducing costs, reducing downtime, reducing waste and increasing productivity. 5G is expected to increase logistics costs to 5% from the current 13-14%.

-5G will also have a major impact on the security and surveillance sectors. 5G technology and its applications will enable remote control of disaster-affected areas, real-time 4K feeds from HD cameras installed in public spaces, and more. It will also help minimise the role of humans in hazardous industrial operations such as deep mines, offshore activities and more.
