Fort Stewart, Georgia (WTOC) – The 2nd Armored Brigade at Fort Stewart is now the most modern unit in the entire Army, thanks to new equipment.
It’s one of many tanks and combat vehicles that helps put Fort Stewart at the top of the list for having the latest equipment.
Military leaders say it means a lot to their soldiers.
“When they finally do, if they’ve ever been in combat, they’ll know they have the deadliest, most accurate, most reliable equipment,” Colonel Lt. James Perkin, Squadron Commander.
The 2nd Armored Brigade recently completed final training on a new tank, ending a modernization process that began last spring. Lieutenant Colonel. Modernization also helps reduce costs, Perkins said.
“Now, they have integrated replaceable parts. So instead of replacing the whole unit, you can open it and replace a card or chip for $20-30. That saves taxpayers a lot of money. Upfront for the military investment, but will save taxpayers money over the life of these weapons systems.”
Those who use the device say it adds a layer of security to them on the battlefield.
“As a whole unit operating these tanks, it makes us more lethal. It makes us more efficient in terms of knowing what we have and what the capabilities are,” Sgt. Ralston Trotter, Artillery Sergeant.
